Guillermo del Toro To Co-author Vampire Novels

The fantasy-horror auteur of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth is moving into published fiction with a trilogy about a vampiric virus.
Writer/Director Guillermo del Toro is putting his experience with vampires to work, penning a trilogy of vampire thrillers with Chuck Hogan, according to Variety. The series, about a vampiric virus overtaking NYC, will trace the vampire race to its Old Testament beginnings.

Del Toro, currently prepping The Hobbit, counts the Mexican vampire film Cronos as his first feature. His second American directorial was the comic-based vampire sequel Blade II.

HarperCollins will release volume one, The Strain, in Summer 2009. Appropriately for a book co-written by the Mexican filmmaker, the company also will publishing a Spanish-language version in the U.S.
