IDW gets 'GHOST WHISPERER', PLAYBOY doesn't

TV's "Ghost Whisperer" is getting a new comic mini-series, while star Jennifer Love Hewitt has declined a flattering invitation from Hugh Hefner.
'GHOST WHISPERER' #1 IN MARCH '08

This coming March, IDW Publishing will present an all-new comic book miniseries based on the hit CBS show starring Jennifer Love Hewitt (I Know What You Did Last Summer).

In the story written by Carrie Smith & Becca Smith, and drawn by Elena Casagrande, ghost whisperer Melinda Gordon comes face-to-face with the Egyptian God of the Dead, who wants for himself all the earthbound spirits Melinda helps to "cross over."

NO LOVE FOR PLAYBOY

Despite a reported "substantial sum" of money, "Ghost Whisperer" star Hewitt has passed on the offer to pose for Playboy Magazine, publicist Sarah Fuller confirmed to E! News on Wednesday, December 19.

Though company policy would not allow her to confirm or deny the offer, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's Number One girlfriend, Holly Madison ("The Girls Next Door"), told TVGuide.com's MATT WEBB MITOVICH that she thinks Hewitt "has the perfect body for [Playboy]."

In Touch Weekly magazine was informed that the 28-year-old star was "flattered" by the offer, but that "she is pretty conservative."

Hewitt's feminine figure was recently the subject of much message-board ridicule over some unflattering paparazzi pics taken while she vacationed in Hawaii with her fiancé, 31-year-old Scottish actor Ross McCall. The Internet venom spurred the Hanes underwear model to respond on behalf of "all the girls out there that are struggling with their body image."

It was the impressive way Hewitt ("Love" to her friends) handled the situation that motivated Hef & Company to make the offer. But her answer comes as no surprise to anyone who's followed her career. Despite her recent blog pronouncements, the People's Choice Award nominee has, over the years, expressed self-consciousness about her physique, as she did to Entertainment Weekly's DAN SNIERSON in October: "My body is far from a wonderland. My body is more like a pawnshop."

However, Love's decision not to pose wasn't influenced by "the money or fame," according to Associated Content's KAYLA MCCLURE, since "she already has that and then some."

Could it be a baby, as speculated on numerous Weblogs last week? Not according to her representative, who insisted, "Jennifer is not pregnant."

Whatever her motives, Hewitt now officially has joined the ranks of Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera, Ashlee Simpson, Nelly Furtado and Katherine Heigl, who turned down astounding amounts of dough to doff their duds.

"Maybe one day [Hewitt] will change her mind about her decision but it is unlikely to change anytime soon," noted Associated Content's McClure. "Playboy isn't for everyone and Hewitt proved that to be true."

VICKTHECHICK3 at SFGate.com just shrugged off this development. "Playboy airbrushes the hell out of every one they feature. Hewitt's true butt would have been unrecognizable."
