IDW announces ‘STAR TREK: SECOND STAGE’ comics

Four new Star Trek comics series are coming from IDW, plus a potential movie tie-in!
On December 27, IDW Publishing announced an ambitious slate of four new series, to be released under the collective banner ‘STAR TREK: SECOND STAGE’.

Star Trek: New Frontier
New York Times Best-Selling novelist Peter David crafts the first New Frontier comic series. The five-part epic, with art by Stephen Thompson (Beneath the Valley of Rage), debuts in March.

Star Trek Year Four: The Enterprise Experiment
Veteran Star Trek TV writer D.C. Fontana, continues IDW’s success with chronicling the untold fourth year of the U.S.S. Enterprise’s original five-year mission. The sequel to Fontana’s own TOS episode "The Enterprise Incident," co-written by Derek Chester (Star Trek: Legacy), with art by Gordon Purcell, begins in April.

Star Trek: Assignment Earth
In May, writer/artist John Byrne unveils his first full Star Trek comic series. The five-part story continues the tale of the cryptic, interstellar time traveler, Gary Seven, who was introduced in the TOS episode "Assignment Earth." Here, Seven and his Earth-born assistant covertly confront threats to the past so that they can save the future.

Star Trek: Mirror Images
IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall joins the creative team behind Klingons: Blood Will Tell--writers Scott & David Tipton and artist David Messina--for a four-part epic recounting twin tales: the rise of the mirror James Kirk to the command of the ISS Enterprise, and the story of the mirror McCoy, Scotty and Uhura. Mirror Images beams onto shelves in June.

Beyond 'SECOND STAGE', IDW also is considering a comic adaptation of JJ Abrams's highly-anticipated new Star Trek movie, which hits theaters on Christmas Day '08. Stay tuned.
