More Smurfs Casting

We already know that Neil Patrick Harris will be the live action character in the upcoming CGI Smurfs movie that is rumored to be taking place in Central Park here in the great NYC.
Now that we know three-inch blue dudes will be nipping at the heels of NPH, it's about time that we learned who is going to lend their voices to these 3D/CG updates of the Peyo creations (name drop!).

We've recieved reports that Jonathan Winters, George Lopez, Katy Perry and Alan Cumming are currently in talks to voice a handful of Smurfs. Considering there is only one female Smurf, it's a safe bet that Katey Perry is approaching the part of Smurfette. George Lopez is looking at Grouchy Latino Smurf (NOTE: I added "Latino," but if Lopez sounds like Lopez ususally does...) and Alan Cumming is bringing high drama to Gutsy Smurf.

Jonathan Winters, the 84-year-old funny man is certainly the most exciting name to get attached to the project to date for an animation nerd like myself. Winters played a few Smurfs during the original Hannah Barberra run not to mention guest spots on tons of things you should have heard of by now - Twilight Zone, Mork and Mindy, Animaniacs, Garfield and Friends, Tiny Toon Adventures - the dude worked with Bob Hope. Respect.

Winters will most likely be Papa Smurf, and it's nice to see some pedigree on this project. An OK TV Series (Lopez), a great part in X-Men 2 (Cumming), Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog (NPH) and a single embraced by the gays (Perry) do not a cohearent Smurfs film make.
