ecksmanfan Reviews Gregg Hurwitz's "The Crime Writer"

Hurwitz has also done work on Graphic Novels such as Wolverine and Punisher. How does he do with his novels?
Gregg Hurwitz, most known for his work on Graphic Novels has tried his hand at a more traditional story. He has worked on such series as Punisher MAX, Moon Knight as well as Wolverine. I actually had no knowledge that he was a comic book writer until I saw an article on this site! Who knew?

On to the book! The story follows Drew, an author of crime novels (hence the title), who wakes up in a hospital bed facing charges for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. All evidence point to Drew, but one thing seems to be his savior...a brain tumor. Drew recruits some of his contacts and friends who have assisted him with information for his novels: a Los Angeles police officer, his editor and a forensic specialist to help clear his name.

It's an interesting take on a rather over used topic, but the way he has written his characters really adds to the uniqueness of the book. He has written them so that they each have a distinct personality which is rather rare now days. He's added a great sense of humor to some of them, but not to the point where they are obnoxious.

The book moves well and keeps you guessing up to the last pages. I had no idea it was going to end up where it did, which is what a crime novel is supposed to do. I can't wait to get into some of his other books as well as his work with graphic novels. Give this one a try!
