Vampire Diaries Embracing the Book Series in Season Two

According to TV Guide, complaints from fans of L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries novels have been complaining about the differences between the books and the show, and in season two the literary world will be more fully embraced.
Reports the site, "The Vampire Diaries will be less ‘loosely based’ on the original novels in the future, according to Executive Producer Julie Plec. Fans of The Vampire Diaries novels have been pretty vocal about the differences between the novels, written by L.J. Smith, and the series. The first season of The Vampire Diaries was a wide departure from the books, and fans took notice. According to Plec, it was all done in the name of creating good TV.

“The deeper we get into the series, ironically, the more we're going to be taking from the books," Plec said. "That's cool because we strayed so far so quickly, just by definition of trying to shape a good story in the right way for television."

Also, at MTV.com, executive producer Kevin Williamson noted that there will be revelations about why Elena looks like Kathryn.

"We 100 percent go there," Kevin said of revealing why Katherine and Elena look so much alike. "It’s not an easy answer, it’s something I think Elena’s going to have to uncover, and I think the answers aren’t exactly what she wants to hear. But 100 percent, she is going to figure out the doppelganger aspect.

"We’re going to play with the doppelganger and why does she look exactly like Katherine from 1864. And Elena takes that journey to uncover the truth because she wants to find out. Wouldn’t you want to know? I mean, it’s creepy."
