"V": An Interview with Scott Wolf

While American audiences are waiting for the return of “V” on March 30th, people Down Under are just getting their first taste of the series that premiered in the U.S. back in November. As a result, there’s a great deal of coverage of the show in Australia, beginning with an actor with actor Scott Wolf.
Australia’s Sunday Telegraph featured an interview with actor Scott Wolf, who portrays reporter Chad Decker. This particular character is morally torn by the opportunity offered to him to be the official mouthpiece of the Visitors, and his need to get at the truth behind the situation which his instincts tell him are right beneath the surface of the Vs veneer.

“Alien arrival is obviously not a brand-new story, but we keep visiting this idea of ‘What if aliens showed up?’” Wolf mused. “I personally believe it’s because we kind of think it’s possible. And after 9/11, the age of terrorism, you don’t really know; it’s hard to recognize your enemy anymore. It could literally be the person standing next to you, or someone you’ve known for years. Part of the mythology of the show is that the Visitors have actually been here for a while and are just showing themselves. They have immersed themselves throughout the world into our societies. That underlying sense of ‘who can you trust?’ is really compelling. And really relevant. It’s a fun way to tell a story, and it’s really gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

“Any time I get a chance to play a role that is not necessarily a bad guy,” he continued, “but is flawed, I am conflicted. But that’s where you can mine some really fun stuff to play… Chad winds up representing this grey area, where being a journalist he's looking for the story. He wants to bite off a chunk of this thing and advance his own career. He is less concerned with whether the aliens are nice or not. He is more concerned with finding a way to grab the spotlight.
