MTV and Jerry Bruckheimer to play games together

MTV Games recently announced a deal with Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer to create new videogames.
MTV Games has entered into an exclusive partnership with uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, "CSI") to develop original videogames.

"Videogames represent a new and innovative medium for what we've always tried to do, which is to tell great stories," said Bruckheimer. "But this medium is unique in that it gives the player control over how those stories unfold."

Van Toffler, President of MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, praised Bruckheimer "and his innate talent for developing wildly successful entertainment properties" which are "the perfect complement to our vision for MTV Games."

Executives from both camps will collaborate on development, production, distribution and marketing. Jeff Yapp, EVP, Programming Enterprises and Bob Picunko, VP Electronic Games & Interactive Products, will oversee the relationship for MTV Games.

In an interview with Reuters last month, Yapp teased that MTV Games was planning a "big announcement, which is coming up fairly quickly." The "fairly quickly" appears to have come.

"We’ve been looking to get into this for quite a while and we’ve just been trying to find the right partner," Bruckheimer told MTV Multiplayer's STEPHEN TOTILO by phone after the announcement. "And MTV was a brand with strong management and something we wanted to be a part of."

The man behind The Rock and National Treasure admitted that he likes 'Halo' a lot, but that his busy schedule won't allow for much play time. But, while he and his team will have to look at the gaming market before deciding on their own approach, he did promise that they "always want to look at things a little differently from other people."
