Beefcake Beats Blade at Box Office - Vampire Movie Sucking 2nd to Ocean's Twelve Star Power

Box Office Mojo reports that New Line's Blade Trinity took the second position at opening weekend box office with a $16.1 million dollar payday, but far behind hipster flick Ocean's Twelve, which made a cool $40.9 mil.
Blade II had a better start in March of 2002. The second Blade sequel opened in 2,707 theaters and won first place with $32.5 million. When all was said and done, Blade II earned $155,010,032 worldwide and more than made up for its $54 mil cost.

It also marks the 2nd time this year that a Marvel comic book movie failed to take the number one spot opening weekend. The other movie falling short was last April's The Punisher, starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta. It never made it to the first position, but Blade III may still, that is, if moviegoers (mainly chicks) get tired of watching the beefcake parade that is Ocean's Twelve.

This also places a heavy burden on the next comic book movie: Elektra, the Daredevil movie spinoff starring Alias' Jennifer Garner will open in theaters on the 14th of January, 2005. Action flicks featuring women as heroines generally don't do well. Even the mega franchise Tomb Raider movies, with Angelina Jolie (voted the world's sexiest woman) as Lara Croft, were considered somewhat of a disappointment at the Box Office. But hey! Let's stay positive. The teasers and featurettes look very good for this one, and Jennifer Garner is smokin' hot right now.
