The Earth Stands Still til next winter

Keanu Reeves' turn at the famous role of Klaatu won't make its Summer '08 release date.
20th Century Fox's remake of the classic 1951 sci-fi anti-war film The Day the Earth Stood Still now will be released next Winter, reports Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta.

The action flick, starring Keanu Reeves as the benevolent alien Klaatu, was originally scheduled for a May 9th '08 premiere, but principal photography has yet to begin.

To be helmed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) from the script by David Scarpa (The Last Castle), Day remakes the sci-fi film, starring Michael Rennie, hailed as one of the finest ever made. It featured the line so often intoned by fans of the genre:

"Klaatu Barada Nikto."

The Day the Earth Stood Still invades theaters 12th December 2008.
