Russell Mulcahy set to direct Zen and the Art of Slaying Vampires

Best known for directing Highlander, Russel Mulcahy is set to direct Zen and the art of slaying vampires
Director Russell Mulcahy, the guy behind the camera of “There can only be one” Highlander, had his agent strike a deal while the iron was hot. Mulcahy also directed last weekend’s number one movie Resident Evil: Extinction which made $24 million dollars for Screen Gems. Today he’s revealed that his next job will be making Zen in the Art of Slaying Vampires for CP Productions.

The horror film is based on the first novel in a trilogy penned by Steven-Elliot Altman. It follows a man who, after losing his love to a vicious vampire attack and he himself is turned into one the bloodsuckers, tries to get his revenge by going after the creature that changed his life. He joins up with a group called The Ministry that show him how to control his constant craving for blood by performing zen meditation. If the hero succumbs to his bloodlust The Minsitry will reduce him to ash. The author is currently writing the screenplay for the movie.

Mulcahy told Variety he was attracted to the project due to “the pathos of the lead characters and the way it is wrapped in a world of mythology.” Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters will produce (the duo are also making that Joust video game movie.) They are also keen on turning Zen into a video game too.
