Love Hewitt isn't really a 'Ghost Whisperer'

JLH doesn't hear or see ghosts, like her character does. But Melinda Gordon HAS made her a believer.
Jennifer Love Hewitt says too many people confuse her with Melinda Gordon, her character on the popular CBS series Ghost Whisperer, which is now in its third season.

"All the time. I'm constantly having people ask me to cross over people, or stopping me and saying, 'Would you just tell my grandmother blah, blah, blah,'" says Hewitt. "I get people who see me across the room and are motioning at me, and I'm like, 'No, there's no one else around you.'"

Of course, Hewitt doesn't know that for sure, because she doesn't actually see ghosts. But she does admit that she's more open-minded than when she began the show in '05.

"I definitely do believe in the energy and the power of the people who were here before us, and that they don't necessarily just pass away and go off so easily. I think some of them stick around."

Ghost Whisperer has stuck around, as well. In fact, the critically-panned series is the first Hewitt has been able to sustain as the lead, and she thinks she knows why.

"Melinda really gives people a chance every single week to go back in time and say something that they didn't get a chance to say," Hewitt says. "Whether you believe in ghosts or not, everybody wants that opportunity. So I think that makes it special."
