'P2' star Rachel Nichols beaming up for the new 'STAR TREK'?

A new rumor suggests that Alias hottie Rachel Nichols may go to work for former boss J.J. Abrams on his new Star Trek movie.
BC at Freeze Dried Movies has been informed by a "very reliable source" that gorgeous model-turned-actor Rachel Nichols has been recruited for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek flick.

This is only a rumor--BC's source claimed to have "overheard" the casting--but one with merit, since Nichols is a fifth-season veteran of Abrams' series Alias.

And while BC did not mention Nichols' proposed character, CHUD's DEVIN FARACI took to speculating, in his characteristic, not-for-kids manner.

"If I had to hazard a guess," Faraci wrote, "I'd say she's been cast as Yeoman Janice Rand, the slutty blonde who always seemed to me like she was Captain Kirk's true love (played in the original series and feature films by Grace Lee Whitney). That's only speculation - she could be playing Nurse Chapel (Majel Barrett), who totally wanted Spock's green blooded c**k, or she could be a Romulan or she could be Carol Marcus (the late Bibi Besch), the mother of Kirk's son David, who was murdered by a Klingon bastard in The Search for Spock. But since I want to see Nichols in a miniskirt, I'm rooting for Rand."

Star Trek is about to begin filming with Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Eric Bana, among others, and will beam into theaters Christmas '08. BC made sure to mention that Abrams' best bud, Heroes star Greg Grunberg, has yet to be cast in Trek.

Meanwhile, Nichols will next be seen in the horror pic P2, which may just be the 27-year-old's breakout role.

"For the first time ever I'm on the side of busses," Nichols told CINDY PEARLMAN of Big Picture News. "It's my face! I was driving on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and a bus was next to me. I glanced over and I'm looking at myself at eye level."
