An apology to 'HEROES' fans from its creator

Heroes creator Tim Kring has admitted to the ratings-killing mistakes of Volume 2, and promises they will all be corrected for the back half of the season.
Heroes creator Tim Kring has noticed his show's creative and ratings decline, and he's passed on his apologies to the fans by way of Entertainment Weekly's JEFF JENSEN.

"The message is that we've heard the complaints," he said, "and we're doing something about it."

The first step in fixing the show was to figure out what's broken, and Kring quite candidly highlighted the major cracks in the foundation. Among them were slow-pacing, including too much Season One-style build-up, too long a delay in presenting "the big-picture story" of impending armageddon, and too many episodes leaving Hiro (Masi Oka) stuck in Feudal Japan with Takezo Kensei (David Anders); isolated introductions of new heroes Monica (Dana Davis), Maya (Dania Ramirez), and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz), rather than weaving them into the stories of the returning stars; and love interests for Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and Hiro.

"In retrospect, I don't think romance is a natural fit for us," Kring decided.

Having amassed that evidence, Kring has called for a "reboot" of the show. Due in part to the WGA strike, the December 3rd episode of Heroes was quickly reworked to include an ending which could serve as the season finale. Kring will use that as an opportunity to give the series "a clean slate" when it goes back into production for Volume 3 (the second half of Season Two), in order to attract new fans and bring back those who defected.
