At last! SMALLVILLE'S Chloe Sullivan joining the DCU

The DC Universe version of the popular TV character originated by Allison Mack arrives in April.
After years of speculation and fan demand, "Smallville"'s Chloe Sullivan finally will make her official DC Universe debut in Spring '08.

As on The CW's Young Superman series, for which the character was created, the DCU Chloe will be Lois Lane's cousin (and, thus, Clark Kent's cousin-in-law).

Allison Mack, who plays Chloe on TV, told The Comics Continuum that she was excited to see her character in Superman's comic-book world. "The idea that if anybody plays this character in the future or if she's in some other projects, they'll have to look like me or have a likeness of me is really cool."

According to Urbandictionary.com, the action being taken by DC is called a "Harley Quinn," after the character whose popularity on "Batman: The Animated Series" moved DC to include her in the comics continuity. (She's currently appearing in the maxi-series 'Countdown'.)

The rumor of Chloe in the DC Universe had first appeared in Wizard Magazine several years ago, and had been a popular topic of speculation on Internet message boards and chat rooms ever since "Smallville"'s launch in October 2001. DC Comics finally purchased the character in late '03 or early '04.

"They bought me--which is kind of neat," Mack admitted gleefully at the time. "My character has never been done before ["Smallville"]. I'm the original. So anybody who does Chloe after me--I'm the prototype."

It was during that same period that "Smallville" producers Al Gough & Miles Millar mentioned that DC's interest in Chloe may have saved her from a dire fate.

Chloe Sullivan likely will make her first appearance in April's 'Superman' #675, written by 'Astro City' creator Kurt Busiek.
