Peter Berg Directing DUNE

Frank Herbert's Dune will once again get a big screen adaptation, this time from Paramount Pictures and Peter Berg.
Herbert's 1965 sci-fi novel set in the future on the desert planet Arrakis, that produces the spice Melange used for distant space travel. There is an empirewide power struggle for control of the spice.

In 2000 the Sci Fi Channel featured a DUNE mini series starring William Hurt and in 1984 David Lynch had first adapated the story to film.

This time out Kevin Misher acquired the rights from Herbert's estate and is set to produce the project through his Par-based shingle with Peter Berg at the helm as director.

DUNE is currently out to writers with the direction of a faithful adpatation.

Other producers include Richard Rubenstein, who produced Sci Fi's "Dune" and sequel "Children of Dune," alongside Sarah Aubrey of Film 44, Berg's production banner. Executive producers are John Harrison and Mike Messina.
