Rumor Mill: Megan Fox Signs On For FATHOM Film

A report this week states that Megan ''the'' Fox will play the lead in a big screen version of the late Michael Turner's comic Fathom.
IESB's ROBERT SANCHEZ this week reported a rumor that 'Transformers' star Megan Fox has signed on to headline the film adaptation of Michael Turner's Fathom comic series. Citing an anonymous source, the site reported that the live-action movie is still at 20th Century Fox but has officially been handed over to the "genre" arm of the studio, Fox Atomic.

The studio is currently out to several writers to revamp the script as a vehicle for Fox, who officially signed on this week to play the lead, the site reported.

The comic book centers on Aspen Matthews, who continues to search for clues from her past in order to balance the turmoil between the two worlds she inhabits. An adopted failed Olympic swimmer and marine biologist, Aspen finds herself in involved with an aquatic humanoid race called the Blue.

There had been no updates on the film since early 2007, and Turner's death this past June threw the project into doubt.

When Comic Book Resouces asked him in August '03 about the status of the Fathom movie, the comic artist said he was, "really, really excited about it and optimistic." The live-action movie was set up with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment at Twentieth Century Fox, and Linda Wolverton was on the second draft of the screenplay. The Aspen Comics team stated that, were they casting the film, the title character would be played by Denise Richards (Starship Troopers) or Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four).

By March of last year, Turner announced that the film was off, due to script problems.
