Supernatural: Who's the story REALLY about?

While waiting out the Hellatus (SPN lingo for hiatus) I began watching the previous seasons and I began to think... Is this the story of both brothers or only one?
While waiting out the Hellatus (SPN lingo for hiatus) I began watching the previous seasons and I began to think... Is this the story of both brothers or only one? I watched a recent Q&A feturing Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki where Jensen basically states he loves where the storyline is going because it gives Dean a role in the storyline rather than being on the sidelines because he felt that it was the story of Sam. When he said that I was completely dumb-founded for a bit. To be honest... (With the exception of Season 1; which focused on both brothers pretty evenly) I feel the show focuses too much on Dean and not enough on Sam. Yes Sam has importance to the show but let me state my cases and you can decide.

Season 2 starts off focusing on Dean nearly dying until his Father sacrifices himself to the notorious Y.E.D. Then before his father's death, John Winchester whispers something in Dean's ear (what is said is unknown to fans until mid-season) Then after poor John's demise it focuses around how Dean deals with his father's death, which involves beating down the Impala.

Season 2 progresses with Dean dealing with what his father told him (basically his father told him, "If you can't save Sam then kill him.") as well as Sam realizing what the Y.E.D. has involved him in. Season 2 also brings in a girl named Jo who is getting into the hunting game and crushing on who else? Yes folks, Dean.

Season 2 ends with Sam being killed and Dean making a deal with a demon to bring him back to life. The deal goes through but with a price. Dean goes to hell in one year.

Season 3... let me just some it up... Sam has one year to save Dean. But it shows a lot of Dean dealing with the reality that he's going to die. Finally the season finale begins and it seems so hopeful for Dean until the last minutes of the show when he is torn apart by Hellhounds and the episode ends with Dean screaming in hell. I won't lie this was one of my favorite episodes. Had a whole "Empire Strikes Back" feel to it.

Season 4-5 is about Dean and Sam's destiny involving the battle royale between Michael and Lucifer. Which means that Dean and Sam will be the vessels the angels duke it out in. And although Sam is part of the storyline with his addiction to demon blood and his so called inevitable fate to becoming Lucifer's vessel and starting the apocalypse; they seem to focus on Dean and his fates with Michael more.

Now to add some points:
1) Dean seems to always get the girl. Let's tally the score shall we?
Dean: 129103389048923 Sam: 5 maybe 6?
2) Dean gets the best lines and the best action scenes.
3) Dean has the item to track God.
4) Dean always has the most intense scenes. Sam gets some but never to the extent of what Dean gets.
5) Dean has the most interesting shit happen to him. ie: Traveled to the past and future. Went to hell and back. Was aged to his 80's by a witch. Told he would lead heaven into a war against Lucifer during the apocalypse as Michael's vessel. Has lived 2 alternate lives. Has been pronounced dead because of a shapeshifter dying looking like Dean. Has had sex with an angel. Was "gripped tight and raised from perdition" by an angel (Castiel). Kills the Y.E.D. Shoots Lucifer in the frikin head; even though it failed. Was immune to Famine's power. Threw a pen into a gun barrel and caused the gun to backfire then states, "I'm Batman!" etc, etc.

Anyways the point I am trying to prove is, yes, both brothers have their own stories but it seems to me that the show focuses around Dean a bit more than Sam. Now I love this show and, I feel, it is one the best show on TV right now.
