Bryan Singer Set to Direct New Superman Movie

First there was Tim Burton. Then McG. Then Brett Ratner. Then McG again. Now X-Men Director Bryan Singer is on board!
In a shocking move, Warner Brothers has hired X-Men director Bryan Singer to direct the next Superman film. Singer is the fourth director in less than seven years to be attached to the project. You can make that five if you count Wolfgang Peterson's involvement with the now defunct Batman vs. Superman. It's also the second time Warner Brothers has had to use someone from Marvel's X-Men universe to resurrect their D.C. Comics franchise (they nabbed Halle Berry to play Catwoman).

It's unclear who will play Superman, but all bets are off. No one who screentested for the role previously should consider himself a safe bet, and people who've worked with Singer in the past could now find themselves landing key roles on the new project. It also remains unclear how Singer's involvement will affect his loyalty to X-Men 3, or even a proposed remake of Logan's Run.

"My interest in 'Superman' dates back many, many years,". Singer said in a statement late Sunday. "In fact, it was the (1978) Richard Donner classic film that was my day-to-day inspiration in shaping the 'X-Men' universe for the screen. I feel that 'Superman' has been late in his return and it is time for him to fly again. "
