1st Look at Murphy as Batman's Scarecrow

The first peek at Cillian Murphy as Dr. Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow, in Batman Begins is online.
Batman Begins writer David Goyer and actor Cillian Murphy (who plays Dr. Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow) were on hand at Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming film.

Here's some highlights:
  • Warner Bros. is letting director Chris Nolan and Goyer make the Batman movie they want.
  • DC has signed off on plans for the movie and the script.
  • The Scarecrow costume will be scary but gave no details.
  • Goyer calls Batman Begins a "cinematic reboot" of the
franchise and says it's possible in any sequels that we'll see villains like The Joker and Two Face and others that have been done in universe set up by director Tim Burton.
  • The first teaser trailer will hit theaters with Alien vs. Predator on Aug. 13.
  • Production wraps Sept. 16.
  • Fear is one of the themes of the whole movie for all of the characters, Goyer said.
  • Murphy: Scarecrow has this fear toxin that is his weapon. So discussed that a lot, the psychology of fear because
Jonathan Crane is not a very physically imposing character, so this is what he uses instead.
  • Goyer said, "I felt very strongly that we should use characters that hadn't been depicted in the films before, fortunately I was familiar with the sort of rogues' gallery of Batman foes but fortunately I felt in the case of Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul, they were two really great villains that hadn't been used. After that we were kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel whether it was a Killer Moth or some of these other crazy characters, but fortunately they had been played with in the animated shows.
