Al Gough & the Secrets of Smallville: Season 7

In an exclusive chat, iF Magazine gets Smallville's exec prod to answer the questions: Helen Slater as Clark's mom? Dean Cain--friend or foe? Season 8??
A month away from the Season 7 premiere of Smallville on 27 September, iF Magazine's Tony Whitt spoke with series co-creator and executive producer Alfred Gough in an attempt to clarify some nagging questions.

1) Kara.
"The Kara that we are introducing in the Season 7 premiere is indeed Kara Zor-el aka Supergirl," confirmed Gough. "There is no connection between [her and the fake Kara seen at the end of S3], but Clark does raise this point to Jor-el in the Fortress."

2) Lara.
"Helen Slater will indeed be playing Lara [Clark's birth mother] in a series of flashbacks in Episode 6, and that may not be her only appearance this season!"

3) Dr. Knox.
"Dean [Cain] is definitely playing a foe [named Dr. Knox]. He not only looks fantastic, but he really is a terrific actor as well."

4) Martian Manhunter.
"Martian Manhunter will remain a guest star, and we'll learn more about him, but in our discussions with Phil [Morris], we all agree, the more mysterious and enigmatic the character remains, the better."

5) Martha & Lex.
"Annette O'Toole is no longer a series regular, and we hope to bring Michael [Rosenbaum] back for one more season after this one in some capacity."

6) Justice League.
"You won't see the whole JLA gang again, but we will see Oliver Queen [a.k.a. Green Arrow] sometime in the middle of the season with -- hopefully -- a new JLAer we haven't met yet on the show."

7) Season 8.
"We would all very much like a season 8, and that in our minds, would be the last season," said Gough. "But that will depend on many factors, not the least of which is ratings, so PLEASE KEEP WATCHING!"
