Activision preps for superhuman 'X-2' game push

Following on the swinging success of last year's movie-inspired video game "Spider-Man," a top-five seller across all consoles for 2002, Activision is hoping to similarly capitalize on the "X-Men" sequel, "X-2," from 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios.

Following on the swinging success of last year's movie-inspired video game "Spider-Man," a top-five seller across all consoles for 2002, Activision is hoping to similarly capitalize on the "X-Men" sequel, "X-2," from 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios. It's therefore pulling out all the stops when it comes to marketing "X-2: Wolverine's Revenge," the original video game adventure based on the upcoming film. The movie opens May 2, and the video game ships April 15 for PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube and Game Boy Advance. Purchasers of the video game will receive a complimentary "X-2" movie pass. It's a marketing strategy borrowed from such DVD releases as "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Santa Clause."
