Ray Park is Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe

The former Darth Maul will take on the fan-favorite, enigmatic hero in Stephen Sommers's big-screen adaptation.
Slashfilm's PETER SCIRETTA has confirmed that Scottish stuntman-turned-actor Ray Park has been cast as Snake Eyes in the live-action cinema treatment of GI Joe.

One of the original members of GI Joe, Snake Eyes is known for his stealth and martial arts expertise. His real identity has remained classified throughout the series.

According to the official plot synopsis, the elite GI Joe team, "based from its headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos."

Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) will direct from a script by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean). Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) is producing alongside Hasbro's Brian Goldner. Paramount has set a mid-February production start date.

Park, best known for playing Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, is the second actor to sign on for the film. In mid-November, British thespian Sienna Miller (Stardust) enlisted in Paramount Pictures' big-budget tentpole. She is rumored to play the Baroness, the exotic and evil raven-haired femme fatale skilled in espionage.

GI Joe hits theaters August 7, 2009.
