Leonard Nimoy starts filming 'STAR TREK' on December 11th!

The original Spock actor blogs the fans about shooting next week, and Paramount releases an official synopsis and credits for the new movie.
As a legend prepares to step back into a role he's not inhabited in 17 years, he wanted to touch base with all his fans.

Yesterday (December 6), actor Leonard Nimoy posted a brief "guest blog" at Trekmovie.com about his impending performance as Spock in the new Star Trek movie.

"I’m looking forward to next Tuesday [December 11], my first day of filming. We’ve already done several makeup and wardrobe tests and I’m confident that I’m in good hands with talented people.

"Very strange and exciting feelings to be coming back to Star Trek after so many years away.

"Feels like a return home. [Director] JJ Abrams and his entire crew have gone out of their way to make me feel comfortable with a warm welcome."

Meanwhile, reports ANTHONY PASCALE, Paramount has issued a 2008 press preview, which includes cast/crew credits and a general synopsis for Star Trek.

A reboot of the franchise created by Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek will have two production partners (for the first time in franchise history): Abrams's Bad Robot and Level 1 Entertainment, which is headed by new executive producers Jeffrey Chernov (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), Bill Todman, Jr. (X-Men, Rendition), Edward Milstein and Paul Schwake. These four join exec prods Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (the last two also wrote the script). The pic is produced by Abrams and Damon Lindelof.

The new official synopsis reads: "From director J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Lost and Alias) and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Transformers, MI: III) comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, Star Trek, featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no man has gone before."

The cast is listed as: John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, with Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy.

It's possible that the actors will be listed alphabetically to avoid billing issues. It's unknown why Chris Hemsworth (George Kirk), Clifton Collins, Jr. (General Ayel), Rachel Nichols and Jennifer Morrison are not as yet listed as cast members. But the preview included the disclaimer "CREDITS NOT FINAL AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE."

The film has not yet been rated.

Paramount Pictures will release Star Trek on Christmas Day '08.
