The Hobbit to be followed by a Bridge

The internet has, surprisingly, gone up in arms over Peter Jackson’s claims that there will be two movies acting as a prequel to his hit smash The Lord of the Rings. Take the jump to find out the real story!
Now, you’re going to have to bear with me; I thought that everyone knew there were going to be two prequel movies to Lord of the Rings. Apparently not, because according to reports, the internet has only recently blown up over the idea that there would be two.

Apparently people feared that Jackson was going to extend the Hobbit in to two movies, which would have been just stupid and was contrary to everything I already knew. So put me down as someone who actually read the news when it came out or, something…

Nevertheless, if you were one of the freaked, look no further than the latest comments from Elijah Wood regarding the films.

“I haven’t spoken to him directly about it [but] I’ve e-mailed him, and as far as I know the two films that they’re doing, one will be ‘The Hobbit’ and another will take place between the 60 years that happened between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings.”

This followed Wood mentioning that he would love to be involved again, in the second movie.

Now in and of itself, this at least has changed a little from the last that I knew. Originally it was rumored (there’s the problem) that the second movie, which probably would have been the first prequel, was to take some of its storyline from other works like The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, or even the Appendices of the main trilogy.

So in that, we’ve moved on, but there is still a lot of story there to be gleaned from between the Hobbit and LotR. Consider the rise in the south of Mordor again, Aragorn and his brethren searching for Gollum, etc.

So if you were freaked, then this should ease your minds. If you still are, then remember this; Jackson has earned our respect, and should have earned just a little peace and quiet. So shut up and leave him alone!
