STARGATE ATLANTIS Season Five Begins Filming

It is a Stargate bonanza today, with several pieces of news for you Stargate fans. First off, we’ll take a look at what the Pegasus galaxy is throwing at us, and how many episodes Robert Woolsey will be in.
OK, so I won’t continue to make jokes about Robert Picado’s past performances, but to say that his excellence in Star Trek: Voyager leaves me in no doubt that he will be perfect in his new role as Atlantis base commander.

And, season 5 will see him appear 14 times, out of a total of 20 episodes, this according to executive-producer Joseph Mallozzi’s blog. According to Gateworld.net it looks as if maybe those 14 episodes will not begin until a few ep’s in to the season. It seems that everyone is reporting Amanda Tapping’s character Samantha Carter will be leaving the station “early in season 5” indicating that maybe she’ll have a send off episode or two.

In other Atlantis news, principal photography has begun for the fifth season, February the 18th; though, of course, writers and crew have been back on set for awhile now doing the pre-production necessary before the big named actors turn up.

Joe Flanigan ("John Sheppard"), Rachel Luttrell ("Teyla Emmagan"), David Hewlett ("Rodney McKay"), and Jason Momoa ("Ronon Dex") return to reprise their roles, and joined by Picado and the beautiful Jewel Staite as Dr. Jennifer Keller.

Filming is expected to run through to September 23, and though season 4 debuted in fall of last year, the writers’ strike could very well end up having pushed Stargate forward to compensate for a lack of programming.

Lastly, series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper will still remain attached to Atlantis, but will spend the majority of this year working on the third Stargate series, Stargate Universe.
