Will There Be A Spartacus Prequel Series?
Starz is scrambling to fill the void left while the gladiator series star recovers.
As reported earlier, Spartacus star Andy Whitfield has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and is undergoing treatment. This has left the series on hiatus with no set timetable for return. Vulture is reporting that Starz is developing a six-episode miniseries prequel in order to keep the series' momentum and fill the time slot void for next January. They are also stating that network execs are now in Cannes at the annual MIP TV international programming marketplace, looking at other options.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand draws a million viewers per week and was renewed for a second season before it even premiered. Here is a preview of next week's season finale.
