Lady SIF : Shield Maiden of Asgard

"I am the Lady SIF. Born a goddess and forged a warrior. I have been baptized in the tears of my enemies. And their children's children fear my name." --SIF

Who is SIF?
SIF is the Sister of Heimdall, guardian of the Bifrost bridge. She has been the constant companion of Thor and Balder since childhood. Like most Asgardians, SIF was born with golden hair. Hers, however, was turned black after Loki jealously cut it and replaced it with enchanted hair made by dwarves. At an early age she showed great prowess as a warrior and was considered the best female warrior of all of Asgard. She is destined to be the wife of Thor.

SIF and Balder

SIF is a Marvel Comics character mainly featured in Thor comics. She was based on the mythological being with the same name. SIF first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #102, she was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

In her first appearance in Tales of Mystery 102. SIF appeared helpless and meek, rather than a warrior woman.

Many years later SIF appeared as a capable warrior. She stayed in Asgard when Thor was banished to Midgard. Thor met and fell in love with Jane Foster. Later, Odin will erase the memory of Jane Foster. Thor who is no longer banished from Asgard, is reunited with SIF, and rekindled their romance.

SIF would later find out that Thor still has feelings for Jane Foster. She gives way, and even saved Jane Foster's life when she was critically wounded. SIF would then find herself attracted/attractive to individuals possessing the power of Thor.

Red Norvell, gaining the power of Thor thanks to Loki, finds himself attracted to SIF, and kidnaps her, although she convinces him to return and save Asgard from Ragnarok.

An alien warrior Beta Ray Bill comes to the defense of Earth during a war with Surtur and his demon army. In the midst of battle SIF and Bill find themselves attracted to each other.

She also develops a romantic relationship with a mortal who wields Thor's power, Eric Masterson. Eric and SIF eventually part realms as friends, but he leaves her with a favored leather jacket.

Outside of Thor series, SIF does not have a lot of adventures. Though she was present in most of the stories that are set in Asgard. She was present when Loki brought forth Ragnarok, she was one of the last to fall, and she was also the last to be revived by Thor. Thor seeked out the Asgardians who were resurrected as mortals, he has to find and remind them that they were once gods.

SIF revived

SIF's revival took longer than the other's because Thor was unable to find her body, due to Loki's manipulation.

Here are the different depictions and artists renditions of Lady SIF:

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

SIF possesses all of the various superhuman attributes common among the Asgardians.

Superhuman Strength: Like all Asgardians, SIF is superhumanly strong and possesses greater physical strength than the average Asgardian female. At her peak, SIF is able to lift about 30 tons.

Superhuman Speed: SIF is capable of running and moving at speeds much greater than that of even the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Stamina: SIF's musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a human being. She can exert herself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair her.

Superhuman Durability: SIF's body is much more resistant to physical harm than the body of a human being. She is capable of withstanding great impact forces, exposure to temperature and pressure extremes, powerful energy blasts, and high caliber bullets without sustaining injury.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: SIF's bodily tissues have about 3 times the density as the bodily tissue of a human. As a result, SIF is actually much heavier than she appears. This increased tissue density also contributes somewhat to her physical strength.

Superhuman Longevity: Like all Asgardians, SIF ages at a rate that is much slower than that of a human being.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite her body's resistance, SIF can be injured like any other Asgardian. However, her metabolism enables her to rapidly regenerate damaged bodily tissue with greater speed and efficiency than a human being is capable of. Injuries such as slashes and punctures can fully heal within hours, whereas broken bones can heal within a few days.

AbilitiesSIF is a formidable combatant and has received extensive training in unarmed combat and swordsmanship.

This is the 54th article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.

Now for the supergeeks, identify who this character is and what is her connection to SIF:

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!
