Glee's Lea Michele to Star in "Dorothy of Oz" - Plus Meet the Rest of the Cast

Variety reports that Glee's Lea Michele will be providing the voice for Dorothy Gale in "Dorothy of Oz," a 3D animated musical based on the novel of the same name by Roger S. Baum, great-grandson of Oz creator L. Frank Baum.
"Story, penned by Randi Barnes, Adam Balsam and Barry Glasser, is an update on The Wizard of Oz and centers on Dorothy Gale returning to a tornado-devastated Kansas and then being transported back to Oz to help her friends," reports Variety. "Other voice talent on board includes Jim Belushi as the Lion, Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow and Kelsey Grammer as the Tin Man. New characters will be voiced by Oliver Platt as Wiser the Owl, Megan Hilty as the China Princess, Hugh Dancy as Marshall Mallow and Martin Short as the Jester -- Dorothy's arch-nemesis. Bryan Adams is writing the first songs and lyrics for the film along with writing partner Jim Vallance."

Summertime Entertainment plans on finishing production by the end of 2011 and will announce a release date later. The film is being directed by Dan St. Pierre (who also helmed Everyone's Hero) and produed by Bonne Radford (Curious George, The Road to El Dorado). Summertime is hoping to make several other adventures based on Roger S. Baum's stories.

Oz is increasingly becoming an over-crowded landscape with a wide variety of projects in active development.
