Marv Wolfman's Re"V"lections, The Comic Part 3

In this third part of an interview with comic book editor Marv Wolfman, conducted while "V": The Series was still on the air, he continues providing insight into making of the 18-issue comic book series (though at the time Wolfman had no idea the comic would ends its run at issue 18).

V - Comic 4 While many comic book titles tend to change artists every few issues, DC tries to hold one creative team to a title and avoid abrupt shifts in the creative team, thus helping to build and sustain a continuing interest in the title. The same holds true on the "V" comic book.
"We have a fill-in issue by Tod Smith coming up, but that's only because Carmine [Infantino] had to finish up a previous project," said Wolfman. "He's already back on the book now, though. Somewhere down the line I will probably have a fill-in story being done by someone else, but outside of that I expect that Carmine and Tony will remain as the creative artists on te book, unless something cataclysmic happens."
And yet there have been inquiries by other artists who'd like to try their hand at a "V" story. Moreso than have expressed a desire to do stories for the Star Trek comic.
V - Comic 5    "Lots of people seem to feel that there's a lot of opportunity to do 'V' stories -- more than we ever had expressing that interest on Star Trek. I think that's because it's more realistic and you have the whole world to operate in and do science fiction stories about if you want."
In terms of covers for the comic, he noted of artist Denys Cowan, "He's really changed his whole style in the last year. We're trying for the most part on 'V' to do very posterish types of covers. Issue three tended to have a very straightfoward comic book cover, but before and after that the covers were and are in a differnet style. I've considered using photo covers, but only if I some day have the time to get access to their photo books and and if I could find a photo which would make a nice cover. But I think of it very much in the comic book sense and I see nothing wrong with that."
The changes being rung down on the tele-version of "V" tend to indicate that the more ambitious science fiction inroads planned for the comic will in some ways be reflected on the TV screen.
V - Comic 6    "I think that they're going to be ading a little bit more sicence fiction to it, which I like," said Wolfman. "It's hard to do, but I think that they need to have a little bit more focus on the rest of the country. The storyline in the comic with Donovan and Diana shackled together is the beginning of something like that. It starts in space and moves across the world, because we felt that we wanted to see what the other resisters were going through and get a little bit more involved in the actual war itself. It really makes for some good comic books.
"The reaction to the comic is some of the most positive I've seen," concluded Wolfman. "It borders on the same sort of reaction we got to the early issues of Star Trek."
