Jane Badler Joins the Cast of "V" - Exclusive Comment from Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum
Jane Badler, who had starred in the original '80s version of "V", has been signed as a recurring character on ABC's "V" as Diana (the same name her original character had), mother of Morena Baccarin's Anna. She'll make her first appearance in the season premiere.
In an Earth's Mightiest exclusive, executive producer Scott Rosenbaum offers, "I'm thrilled to have Jane Badler join our already extraordinary cast. As I said at Comic Con, my casting philosophy is simple: best actor wins. I look forward to working with Jane and am convinced she will be an exciting addition to the show."
Prior to the announcement, Badler was interviewed and the subject naturally came up, beginning with her feelings about the new show.
"I like it. I really do.Like the old 'V' it’s cerebral," she said. "I don’t know if it has the same impact, because the old 'V' was so innovative for its time; it had a very strong emotional impact on people and it still resonates. This 'V' is a bit more subtle.. They’ve put a lot of work into getting wonderful actors and working on the scripts; it’s shot beautifully. It’s quality television. I think it’ll be a slow burn. I think it’s popular, but it’ll become more popular over time."
As to whether she would be a part of the show, she commented, "It’s something that is being worked out; whether or not I am going to return is still a decision that hasn’t been made by myself or the producers. I seriously think that the fans are the real reason why they are considering me. I get the feeling with the new 'V,' it’s not something that they even wanted. I really feel they wanted to separate from the old show – that’s my own feeling – and do a new 'V' that was fresh. I don’t think they were that interested in bringing back old cast members. But there’s been – at least that I can see – a huge groundswell for me. It seems like – although I am in Australia, so I’m not sure – there’s quite a strong swell of support. People are really asking to bring me back. Even when the announcement at Comic – Con slipped, the press caught it and there was a lot of press. I’m sure that is a very big reason why I am being considered and there’s a lot of power in that."
According to TV Guide, Diana is being held prisoner on the mothership that has been artificially redesigned to look like the Visitors' home world.
"V," which received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series, stood as television's No. 1 new drama during the 09-10 TV season in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, delivering substantial year-to-year improvement in both of its Tuesday time periods (8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.). "V" finished No. 1 in both time periods among key Men (M18-34/M18-49).
Season 2 will feature more character and lizard reveals, more details about the Vs' mythology - in which Badler will play an important role -- and more action and more plot twists. Viewers can expect a roller coaster ride week to week.
"V" stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack, Charles Mesure as Kyle Hobbes, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.
"V" is produced by HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers are Scott Rosenbaum, Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall.
