‘STAR TREK: OF GODS AND MEN’ Premieres in December!

Starring Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols, the most highly-anticipated Trek fan film ever finally hits the Web on December 22.
The wait is over, and the producers of the most highly-anticipated fan film ever made have finally announced a release date. Part One of the new three-part Web-only mini-series Star Trek: Of Gods and Men will premiere at 5:01 PM EST on December 22nd, 2007.

Filmed in July '06 in New York and L.A. under the direction of actor Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager), and billed as a "40th Anniversary Gift to Trek Fans," the series was conceived and written by producer Sky Douglas Conway, with former Deep Space Nine writers Jack Trevino and Ethan H. Calk, and was produced in association with James Cawley of Star Trek: New Voyages.

"It's a nostalgia-based Trek project — and I think the fans will really get a kick out of it," said Russ, who also appears in the film. "We've never seen this kind of Trek story before."

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is considered the closest thing that the fan film world has got to "the real thing" due to the number of Trek veterans both behind and in front of the camera. The cast includes original Series stars Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig and Grace Lee Whitney; Alan Ruck from Star Trek Generations; Garrett Wang of Voyager; Chase Masterson and J.G. Hertzler from Deep Space Nine; and Gary Graham and Crystal Allen from Enterprise. Director of photography is Trek veteran Doug Knapp.

"The original series was in danger of being cancelled after the second season, and the fans came through," said Koenig. "Once again, after 40 years, with the support and enthusiasm of the fans Star Trek will have another life on the Internet — and I'm very pleased to be part of it."

Originally the first part of the 3-part miniseries was to premiere in late December '06, but was pushed back to mid April '07, due to effects work. Parts 2 and 3 were to have been released in May and June respectively.

Despite its current status as a fan film, it has been suggested that Star Trek: Of Gods and Men could break that barrier and become officially licensed by CBS Paramount.
