Chris Pine To Star as Captain Kirk?
The little-known actor who starred opposite Lindsay Lohan in the forgettable Just My Luck is rumored to be in talks to play the captain of the Enterprise.
Star Trek XI (working title), currently in pre-production, is set to begin filming this fall, yet the actors playing the crew of the Enterprise have not been locked in yet. J.J. Abrams (Lost, Mission Impossible III) is producing and directing the picture from a script by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
Confirmed cast members include Zachary Quinto (Heroes) as Spock, Zoe Saldana (Blackout) as Nyota Uhura and Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) as Pavel Chekov. It was revealed on Tuesday that Eric Bana (Troy) will play the film’s villain, Nero, though there is no word whether his character will be human or alien.
Who will play James Tiberius Kirk? Rumors are circulating that Chris Pine is in serious talks with Paramount to fill the captain’s chair. The 27-year old actor is not widely known; his biggest role to date was as the male lead in the box office flop Just My Luck (2006) with Lindsay Lohan. However, Pine stood out in Joe Carnahan’s Smokin’ Aces (2006) and is in talks to star opposite George Clooney in White Jazz, also to be directed by Carnahan.
Star Trek XI is slated for a December 2008 release.
