Two Platinum Comics Titles Named Finalists in ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Awards
Unique and Red Mantis Nominated in the Best Graphic Novel category.
“It’s exciting that in Platinum’s first full year of print publishing, there are two titles recognized by Foreword Magazine as finalists in the graphic novel category,” said Sean O’Reilly, who oversees publishing and animation at Platinum Studios. “According to ICv2, there were over 3,000 graphic novels produced in 2007 and, to be anywhere near the top with such esteemed company as the other nominees, is a significant honor.”
Red Mantis follows the beautiful and deadly Lola, a member of the ancient Sy Kuang society of assassins. When the most powerful gangster in Chinatown marks her for death, Lola’s only hope for survival is to bring down her former employer’s entire crooked organization with the help of Dennis, an FBI agent who has not idea of her true identity.
Unique, which Walt Disney Pictures is developing into a feature film, centers on the extraordinary life of Jon Geoffries. Convinced all his life that he was schizophrenic because of strange visions of another world, Geoffries learns that he is actually seeing the Earth’s twin, a parallel world in another dimension, and that he is Unique; one of few people with no doppelganger in the other world...and the power to move between them at will.
The 2007 ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award winners will be announced on May 29th at the BookExpo America (BEA) convention in Los Angeles, CA.
