Stills from THE SPIRIT Film

See more of Frank Miller’s ode to Will Eisner’s classic comic book adventure character in gritty detail.
The Spirit is adapted from Will Eisner’s comic book series of the same name and is described as an action-adventure-romance-noir-superhero genre mash-up starring a ladies-laden cast in "timeless" mythical city, Central City. Denny Colt (Gabriel Macht) returns from the dead to fight crime as The Spirit while his arch-nemesis, The Octopus (Sam Jackson), enlists a bevy of femme fatales to wipe him from the streets of Central City once and for all.

Miller told Entertainment Weekly:

"The character has a terrifying side to him. This is a man who’s died and come back to life. So it twists into fantasy. And of course there are tons of women in it. There have to be — it’s The Spirit. They’re all in love with him, and he’s in love with all of them. You might say he’s a bit of a slut."

The Spirit is rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of stylized violence and action, some sexual content and brief nudity,” and will be released on Christmas Day 2008.

Certainly merits inclusion among the so-bad-its-good lists. Late into the movie, a line from Scarlett Johansson's character is particularly priceless in the way it blatantly winks at just how silly she knows the film is. If you've seen the film, you'll know which one I'm talking about. You can watch movie for free on Terrarium TV app. Get it from this website.
