The Dark Knight Director Christopher Nolan May Not Return For Another Sequel

Nolan cites “respect for the fans” as a possible reason to not make a third installment in the new Batman franchise.

Said Nolan:

"I don't know why they're hard to do. Maybe there's so much expectation to them. But I wouldn't want to do one if it weren't going to be as good as the first or second. That's not respectful to the fans."

Fans should not give up hope, however. Heath Ledger, who captivated and terrified audiences as the Joker, is expected to be nominated posthumously for a Best Supporting Actor nomination, and the Batman: The Dark Knight DVD sales are sure to reach record-breaking numbers, both of which may prompt the studio to make an enticing offer to Nolan.

"The worst thing you could do now that you've gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing," said Nolan.

Batman: The Dark Knight will be released on DVD and Blu-ray today and will be re-released in theaters following the Academy Award nominations on January 23rd.
