Garrett Hedlund to Lead the Cast of Tron
Disney has announced that the on-the-rise actor would be featured in the sequel to the 1982 cult classic film, opposite Jeff Bridges.
Though the ticket sales of the initial release were modest—$33M with a $17M budget—the film inspired a popular video game and has gone on to become a cult hit. Produced by Sean Bailey, Jeff Silver and Steven Lisberger—co-writer and director of the original—the new Tron will be directed by Joseph Kosinski and has a budget topping $100M. Jeff Bridges will reprise his role as the enigmatic "Flynn." It was recently announced that Bruce Boxleitner ("Tron" in the original) will also be involved with the film.
Disney surprised attendees of the 2008 San Diego Comic Con by dropping some test footage of a "lightcycle" duel between a blue "program" cycle and a young Flynn (Bridges) riding a yellow cycle, while an older, bearded Flynn (also Bridges) looks on from above.
There has been no official release date given for this film, though it is expected to be released in 2011.
