Mona Gillen Lands the Lead in The Hog
The indie film star and internet sensation will play the lead in Nifty Entertainment’s latest feature film.
The Hog is the third feature-length film produced by Nifty Entertainment, and the second by Aught Media. A horror film with a comedic twist, the highly anticipated film has been best described as "Porky's meets Jaws." The screenplay for The Hog was written by renowned comic book creator and film industry veteran, Mat Nastos, and will be filmed in Southern California beginning in May 2009, with worldwide release set for DVD in early 2010.
With viewers of Liv Films videos numbering in the tens of millions, Mona Gillen is the co-founder of Liv Films, which has produced more than 50 videos. Those productions with her partner Jed Gillen have given them one of the most watched channels on YouTube. Gillen has been featured on CNN, Fox News, USA Today, ABC Online, and the New York Times.
Videos starring Gillen have gone on to receive over 30 million views on YouTube alone.
Writer/Director Mat Nastos said, "I have been a huge fan of the work Mona and her partner have been releasing online for a long time now and was beyond thrilled when she agreed to take the starring role in The Hog. It's not often you find someone as beautiful, talented and downright hysterical as Mona and I feel incredibly fortunate and privileged to have the chance to work with her. The fact that I also get to work with Jed Gillen, who happens to be one of the best online comedy writers around, is just icing on an already delicious cake. And I do love me some cake!"
Brian Rife, co-founder of Aught Media, went on to say, "All of us at Aught Media and Nifty Entertainment both are ecstatic that Gillen, an actress with amazing screen presence and comedic ability, has been chosen to star in The Hog. Factor in an off-beat screenwriter/director like Nastos and we predict The Hog will be one of the hottest, most imaginative indie horror flicks to come around in a very long time."

Nifty Entertainment is best known for its comic book, THE CADRE, which has sold nearly 200,000 copies since the series launched in late 2005. Making use of alternative markets and distribution outlets, Nifty Entertainment was able to demonstrate the potential for high sales outside of standard comic book industry channels. Exploiting these outside markets allowed for Nifty to achieve a level of sales not ordinarily seen by an independent publisher. In 2009, Nifty Entertainment has turned its sights on the film industry in order to create a fusion of comic books, anime and live-action film with upcoming projects like THE HOG. Nifty Entertainment
