Soderbergh on Cameron's Avatar: "Holy $#@%!"
James Cameron returns to sci-fi in a big way with AVATAR!
James Cameron took something of a hiatus from making feature films following his mega-successful Titanic. After an aborted attempt at making a Spider-Man film in 2002, Cameron produced the TV series Dark Angel and then went on to produce several documentary films.
However, the director of such sci-fi classics as The Terminator and Aliens couldn't stay away from the genre that made him famous for long. Avatar, a photorealistic CGI film in 3-D, has apparently been on Cameron's mind since the mid-90's, but he wanted to wait until the technology to make the film was realized.
Due out at the end of the year, there is very little known about Avatar, but it's already getting high praise from some of Cameron's contemporaries. First it was reported that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg visited the set, and now Steven Soderberg has apparently been given a sneak peek. In a recent interview, Soderbergh (Solaris)said:
"I've seen some stuff and holy $#@%. It's the craziest $#@% ever."
Avatar is scheduled to be released December 18, 2009!
