Danny Trejo on Machete: "I'm an action hero, and I don't have to wear tights!"

With Machete being released on Blu-ray and DVD recently, the Great Falls Tribune of Montana caught up with the film's leading mad, Danny Trejo.
In Machete, Trejo plays the title character, who violently fights back against injustice, even if the battle should pit him against immigration policies that seem wrong or corrupt senators.

"I'm an action hero, and I don't have to wear tights," the actor offered. "Machete fights corruption. Corruption is in everything. He's not really dealing with the guy sneaking across the border to find a job. He's kind of dealing with the corruption that goes behind it. The drug traffickers, the bad businessmen. He goes on both sides."

Playing a tough guy on film -- and especially coming from an even tougher life in reality -- is something that he actually embraces. "If you've ever taken a good look at one of my pictures, I'm gonna have a tough time playing a car salesman. It's funny when people say 'Aren't you afraid of being typecast?' As what? A mean looking Mexican with tattoos? I am a mean looking Mexican with tattoos so I ain't gonna be typecast."
