Tom Cruise Circling Around One Shot Adaptation
Although Tom Cruise is supposed to be filming Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion in January, if things come together fast enough he could be starring in the adaptation of Lee Child's One Shot first. Christopher McQuarrie will adapt the book and direct.
In an exclusive report, Deadline describes the film as a "thriller based on the Lee Child book series about former military policeman-turned-drifter Jack Reacher... Fans of the Reacher book will have to absorb this development, because Cruise is very different physically from the bruising tough guy who has created mayhem over 15 bestselling novels that have sold 40 million copies. In the books, Reacher is 6'5," about 250 pounds, and when you are on the business end of his clenched fists, you are most likely going to be spitting out teeth and getting fitted for a cast or two.
"Reacher's size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way," Child said when he threw his support behind the move.
The plot of One Shot deals with a sniper who has murdered five people before being captured. It would seem to be the end of of the situation, but Reacher leanrs learns there's much more to the situation than there seems.
If negotiations drag on, then Cruise will have to shoot One Shot following Oblivion.
