Alice in Wonderland: So Much for the Critics

Most of the reviews for Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland were fairly negative, but it's obvious by its weekend gross that the audience simply didn't agree with them.
This new 3D take on Alice pulled in over $116 million at the domestic box office, and another $94 million overseas. Having accumulated over $200 million, the film has already met the negative cost of its budget. Using Hollywood's profit formula of a film needing to do about twice its production cost to break even (for advertising and the cost of striking thousands of prints), it well on its way to earning its money back. Helped, of course, in no small way by the higher ticket prices for 3D (which is likely another reason so many films will be ocming out in 3D in the future).
