KING KONG: Musical Hits Australia in 2013, Broadway to Follow

Britain's The Guardian is reporting that King Kong: Live on Stage, from the creative minds of the Walking With Dinosaurs tour, will reach the Australian stage in early 2013, with a Broadway run expected shortly thereafter.
The idea behind the show is that a giant animatronic King Kong will be featured onstage along with 40 actors, singers, dancers and pupeteers.

"We are making huge leaps from what we created for the dinosaurs," says Steve Tilders of Global Creatures. "King Kong is the key character who will have to command the stage and act alongside actors. When he scratches his nose, for instance, it will have to be done in one fluid, controlled motion where all the muscles up his arm will move at once and he has enough control not to accidentally punch a hole in his face!"

The book is being written by Tony-nominated Craig Lucas, with a score by Marius de Vries. The entire production has been authorized by the estate of Merian C. Cooper. Says producer Carmen Pavlocic, "This new stage version will preserve the classic story yet look at it through a contemporary cultural lens."

When the show arrives in 2013 it will be in time for the 80th anniversary of the release of the original King Kong.
