He-Man Screenwriter Hired

The land of Eternia has found its scribe.
The rumor mill is spinning this morning with news that the live action adaption of He-Man will be handled by first time writer Evan Daugherty. Apparently Even has been hired to do a page one re-write for Silver Pictures and the WB. The next logical response to this news is why? The script that has been locked down in development hell for the last few years is pretty damn good. Why mess with a good thing?

THR has the following: "John Stevenson ("Kung Fu Panda") is attached to direct the adaptation of the show, which followed a blond warrior named Prince Adam who, when uttering the magic words, "By the power of Grayskull -- I have the power," turned into the heroic He-Man. He and his allies -- Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms and Orko -- defended their planet Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor, who tried week after week to conquer the fortress Castle Grayskull, which imbued He-Man with his powers.

It sounds like the studio has at least captured the essence of He-Man, but wait, word is Warner Brothers is reimaging Adam as a soldier who happens to stumble upon Eternia. In this new magical world Adam learns of Skeletor's evil plans to eradicate all magic using his technological army.

Why does WB have to turn this into a soldier of fortune type movie? He-Man has and always will be a fantasy type movie with a few sci-fi elements thrown in there, one that follows the lines of LOTR and soon to be The Hobbit. There is no reason to incorporate Earth into this film at all or normal humans. Keep it in Eternia.
